Being Challenged!

The Eastern Synod set churches in their area a challenge to raise $100 (about £80) to help build the next classroom block for Lekkerwater Secondary School.

The Eastern Synod is in partnership with the UPC Presbytery of Zimbabwe and there are three churches twinned with three of theirs.

The partnership is principally about learning from and supporting one another, and a number of visits in both directions and regular communication go a long way in achieving this. Whilst it is not centred on charity or fundraising there is a clear imbalance in the material resources.

Since 2014 the Presbytery has been building a new secondary school, block by block. Older children were having to walk up to 10km to get to school. The first twin classroom block was finished in 2016 and the school has 50 students. The final target is to open 3 twin classroom blocks and a staff block in order to educate 300 children who would almost otherwise drop out of school at the age of 11.

After our Parade Service in March we held a cake sale that was very well supported and raised £119 towards the building of another twin classroom block like the one pictured at the top of this post.

We thank God for those who spend time in Zimbabwe ensuring that the children there will have good facilities and a good education for years to come and we look forward to hearing how the project progresses.
